Tourism NSW Government Travel Service

Promoting and supporting the development of sustainable tourist destinations and experiences as a government agency requires a lot of forethought and creativity in marketing execution.

The Challenge

A government tourism department responsible for promoting several regional locations to international and domestic visitors was look for a way to make it easier for their clients, small tourism operators, such as land lords offering bed and breakfast or fishermen providing fishing charters, to subscribe to seven separate holiday destination brochures.

The Solution

Tourism NSW struck up a deal with Workstream Solutions whereby Workstream technology would be use to simplify the process for small businesses to market their destination, business or product in a local tourist guide that was then distributed further a field to potential visitors.

A simplified process that included an auto-generated email confirmation was used in this scenario. The email included an online design element that required the tourist operator to create their own ad and submit that back to the production manager at Tourism NSW. Simple yet extremely effective!

Facts

  • Tourism NSW received a more cost effective and faster way to promote and manage advertising in their seven monthly Emporium travel guides. Titles include:

    • Lord Howe Island
    • North Coast of NSW
    • Sydney Short Breaks
    • Heart of Country NSW
    • South Coast of NSW
    • NSW High Country
    • Outback NSW
  • They now have a platform that facilitates the introduction of new titles with no additional overheads.
  • Their strategy was to sell advertising space through their network of 125 Regional Tourist Offices (Visitor Centre’s) who then on-sold nine advert modules, per page, to local travel operators wanting to promote accommodation, or other local activities.
  • Tourism NSW effectively controlled their brand guidelines by utilising AdConstructors online design templates so that each Emporium brochure was developed with a unique color palette and advertisers were able to design their own ads unaided within the template parameters, automatically.
  • AdConstructor drove the new simplified two step process, which pushed an email with a link to the correct advert size (template) purchased by the advertiser, who in turn filled it in and approved the module online for final page pagination and print by Tourism NSW.
  • Tourism NSW was able to use the online pagination tools to assemble each client approved ad module into whole pages for the complete publication.
  • Online design can be undertaken by the operator or by Tourism NSW, or the Regional Tourist Office where required.
